The Atal Institute of Super Specialities (AIMSS) at Chamiyana is set to revolutionize government healthcare in Himachal Pradesh by introducing robotic-assisted surgeries, positioning itself alongside top-tier institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi in terms of medical excellence.
With the installation of a state-of-the-art robotic surgery machine worth ₹29 crore, AIMSS Chamiyana becomes the first government facility in the state to adopt such advanced surgical technology. The system is now fully installed, and clinical launch preparations are complete. This development is expected to enhance surgical precision, reduce patient recovery time, and significantly streamline complex procedures, thereby reducing the current backlog of critical surgeries.
According to a spokesperson from the Health Department, this milestone is part of a broader modernisation project, under which medical equipment worth ₹42 crore is being installed. These upgrades span multiple key departments, including:
-
Urology & Renal Transplant
-
Cardiac Anesthesia
-
Cardiology & CTVS (Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery)
-
Plastic, Gastrointestinal, Pediatric, and Neurosurgery
These departments are being equipped with high-end diagnostic and surgical tools, bringing them to par with the best in the country.
The spokesperson emphasized that this ambitious healthcare overhaul reflects the strong commitment of the Himachal Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to deliver accessible, affordable, and advanced healthcare to every citizen in the state. The goal is to ensure that even remote regions receive world-class treatment without the need to travel to metropolitan cities.
The transformation at AIMSS Chamiyana is a major step toward making Himachal a leader in public sector healthcare innovation, combining technological excellence with inclusive service delivery.
