Acting on the directions of CM Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh Police on Friday conducted a special, intensive State-level operation to further strengthen the ongoing “Chitta-Free Himachal” campaign, launched on 15 November 2025.
As part of the coordinated drive, police teams carried out extensive inspections and searches at identified deserted, isolated and semi-public locations across the State. These included secluded hill slopes, forest areas, abandoned buildings, vacant rooms, parking spaces, river banks, old bus stands, garage sheds and other vulnerable sites often misused for drug-related activities.
During the operation, a total of 254 deserted and semi-public locations were inspected, and 596 vehicles were checked statewide. The drive was implemented uniformly across all police ranges, reflecting effective inter-range coordination and strong operational preparedness.
In the Southern Range, intensive checks were conducted in Solan, Kinnaur, Sirmaur and the Baddi–Barotiwala–Nalagarh area. The Central Range covered Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts, while the Northern Range focused on identified locations in Kangra, Nurpur, Dehra, Chamba and Una districts.
A total of 301 individuals were checked and counselled during the operation, while blood and urine samples of nine persons were collected as per legal procedure. Nine criminal cases were registered under the NDPS Act and other relevant provisions. Individuals found at isolated or deserted places were properly counselled, documented and, where required, handed over to their family members after due verification.
The State-level Anti-Chitta drive was carried out in a systematic, intelligence-based manner with strong inter-district coordination to ensure safe, lawful and effective enforcement.
The campaign aims to prevent youth from falling prey to chitta and other drugs, and to curb group-based drug use at secluded locations that often become entry points into substance abuse.
The Himachal Pradesh Police has reiterated the appeal of the Chief Minister, urging citizens—especially the youth—to promptly share any information related to chitta or drug activities by dialing 112 or contacting the nearest police station. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
With decisive leadership and active public participation, the Himachal Pradesh Police reaffirmed its commitment to completely eradicate chitta from the State.
