CM Sukhu has announced the release of Rs. 45 crore to clear pending payments to apple growers under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the years 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Chairing a meeting of the Horticulture Department, the Chief Minister said that payments through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) have already been made to growers who supplied up to 30 apple bags, while payments for larger suppliers are currently being processed.
To streamline the apple procurement system, the Chief Minister also launched the Horticulture Market Intervention Scheme website and mobile application. The digital platform will enable complete online tracking of procurement, from apple collection to processing, ensuring transparency and faster services for growers.
Apple farmers will be able to register on the portal using Aadhaar, land and bank details, book procurement slots and receive SMS updates regarding purchase and payment status.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure adequate staff deployment at collection centres during the procurement season and provide all necessary support to orchardists.
He said the state government remains committed to protecting the interests of farmers and has introduced several initiatives for their welfare, including the universal carton system to reduce exploitation by middlemen and improve benefits for apple growers.
