Athlete Balbir Singh Brings Pride to Himachal

Balbir Singh, a distinguished athlete from Himachal Pradesh and Athletic Coach with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, has once again brought glory to the state through his exceptional performances in athletics.

At the 46th National Masters Athletics Championship held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, from 28th January to 1st February 2026, Balbir delivered a stellar performance. He won two Gold Medals—in the 10,000 metres (40:33) and 5,000 metres (19:09)—and a Silver Medal in the 1,500 metres (5:05). His achievements earned him the title of Best Athlete in his age category and selection for the World Masters Games in South Korea in August 2026.

Balbir Singh’s national-level success is long-standing. At the Asian Masters Games in Chennai, he won Silver in the 5,000 metres and Bronze in the 10,000 metres and 1,500 metres, competing against top athletes from multiple countries. At the National Masters Games of India in Dharamshala, he secured Gold in the 10 km and 5,000 metres, along with a Bronze in the 1,500 metres. At the Master Athletic Federation of India Championship in Bengaluru, he added a Gold in the 5,000 metres and a Silver in the 1,500 metres. He also earned a Silver in the 1,500 metres at the All India Civil Services Athletics Meet in Patna.

Beyond his personal achievements, Balbir Singh actively mentors over 20 emerging athletes in Himachal Pradesh. His dedication, professionalism, and exemplary conduct inspire young sportspersons to pursue excellence, maintain discipline, and adopt a healthy, drug-free lifestyle, making him a role model both on and off the track.
