Annual functions are an important day in the life of students as they not only present an amazing cultural event, but are also rewarded for their academic achievements. Winning or losing are a part of life as they bring balance to our lives, but then participation and a sense of belonging is equally important. The Senior Section Speech Day of Auckland House Boys School, Shimla was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Amit Kashyap, who was warmly greeted by the School Principal Micheal A John, Direct Principal Auckland House School, Sunita John, Senior Coordinator Minakshi Thakur and students.

The morning began with the lightning of the lamp and invoking the blessings of god with a hymn “You Raise Me UP”, followed by an English play titled “A Dollar”. It was a symbolic play in which a troupe of stranded strolling players, tired and destitute, end up haggling over a dollar bill they find.  The control of the group is fought for by the Comedian and the Villain, and they think that the one who holds the dollar has all the power. However, the play concludes ironically, when a stranger enters the scene, who is asked to make change for the dollar bill so that the players may divide among themselves, instead he pulls an axe, steals the dollar and runs off.

The variety programme further showcased the dancing and singing skills of the boys as they danced on Gujrati Folk “Raas Garba” and Rajasthani “Ghoomar”, along with a few melodious songs by the school choir and the band that left the audience mesmerized. The Hindi play too shared a deep message about social inequality. (CLICK TO SEE ALL VIDEOS)

Principal John highlighted the achievements and activities of the students during the current academic year while a heart-warming speech was given by the school head boy Farzan Hayat Khan. Addressing all present, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the students, management and teachers for putting up an amazing cultural event. Sharing few pertinent points he said, “It is important that parents should prioritize there time with their children. The biggest and main reason why children fall prey to drugs and abusive substances is when the home environment is not conducive and parents support and love is lacking.” He further added that children should always respect their parents and teachers and the cultural values instilled in them today will help them achieve their goals in the future.

The day ended on a happy not as children received prizes for their good academic performances.
