B.L. Modi Elocution 2025 Begins with Passion and Precision

The 26th edition of the esteemed B.L. Modi Inter-School Elocution Competition began today at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, setting the stage for a vibrant showcase of oratory skill, confidence, and youthful intellect. With participation from ten of Shimla’s most reputed schools, the two-day event promises to celebrate the enduring spirit of articulate expression and public speaking among students.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by a sense of tradition and pride, as Abid Hussain Sadiq, IAS, lit the ceremonial lamp alongside the Headmaster of Bishop Cotton School, formally opening the event. Senior students of the host school welcomed the guests and introduced the audience to the rich legacy of the competition, now in its 26th year of fostering eloquence and confidence among young speakers.

Day One featured the Junior Division, with students from Classes 4 to 7 competing across three categories. Participants impressed the audience and judges alike with their clarity of thought, expressive delivery, and impressive stage presence. The categories and winners were as follows:

  • Junior Poetry

    • Best Speaker: Aishwarya Sud – Loreto Convent, Tara Hall

    • Most Promising Speakers: Ojasvi Ojal Sharma – D.A.V. New Shimla, Nisha Kashyap – Convent of Jesus and Mary

  • Intermediate I

    • Best Speaker: Mairahh Singh – Loreto Convent, Tara Hall

    • Most Promising Speakers: Rudrakshi Sharma – Convent of Jesus and Mary, Manvendra Thakur – Bishop Cotton School

  • Intermediate II

    • Best Speaker: Nahima Dogra – Loreto Convent, Tara Hall

    • Most Promising Speakers: Sanvi Sharma – D.A.V. New Shimla, Arhav Uppal – Auckland House School (Boys)

Beyond awards, the day was a celebration of every participant’s voice, courage, and creativity. Teachers, parents, and peers in attendance applauded the passion and poise displayed by the young orators, who brought stories, poetry, and thought-provoking ideas to life.

With anticipation building for the Senior Division rounds on Day Two, the B.L. Modi Elocution Competition continues to serve as a powerful platform for students to speak up, speak well, and speak with purpose—keeping alive a tradition that shapes confident communicators and future leaders.
