The festivities commenced as Sport Captain Daksh lit the flame of the BCS Olympic torch, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence.
Lefroy House Triumphs: Challenge and Proficiency Cup Winners
Lefroy House secured the overall sports award, clinching the Challenge and Proficiency Cup.
Dramatic Turn: Victor Ludorum Cup Winner
Kabir of Class X initially received the Victor Ludorum Cup, awarded to the day’s champion, by the chief guest. However, a dramatic recount revealed that Sarthak K of Class XI was the rightful recipient due to high jump scores.
Director’s Vision: Mr. Simon Weale’s Perspective
Mr. Simon Weale, the Director of Bishop Cotton School and a former first-class cricketer, emphasized the significant role sports play in the lives of young Cottonians. He reiterated the school’s commitment to providing world-class opportunities and facilities to prepare students for life beyond the school gates.
Leadership Acknowledged: Captains of Houses and Chief Guest
The boys, led by their house captains, received acknowledgment during the march past, with Mr. Vivek Bhatia (I.A.S), Principal Private Secretary/Special Secretary to the Honourable Chief Minister, H.P., serving as the Chief Guest.
Daring Display: ‘Hoop of Fire’ Performance
A highlight of the day was the daring ‘hoop of fire’ display, featuring Cottonian gymnasts who had trained for months. This thrilling event required strength, bravery, and precise timing, earning praise from Mr. Bhatia for the boys’ fitness and courage.
Musical Excellence: The School Band
Mr. Bhatia also commended the school band, hailing it as one of the best school bands he had ever heard.
Preserving Tradition: Heritage School Since 1859
As a heritage school founded in 1859 by Bishop George Cotton, BCS maintains many traditional routines. Students engage in daily physical training (PT) and participate in seventeen sports, including shooting, boxing, rock climbing, swimming, and forest obstacle courses.
Global Exposure: Cricket in the UK, Football in Thailand and Singapore
BCS boys have recently undertaken international tours, playing cricket in the UK and football in Thailand and Singapore.
Diverse Sports Day Events
The Sports Day festivities encompassed various events, including gymnastics and yoga displays by the junior school, PT and marching competitions, long jump, high jump, discus and javelin throwing, and intense track events among the school’s four houses. The Sports Day parade served as a powerful reminder of the importance of teamwork and discipline among BCS students.
