In a major step toward India’s first fully digital population count, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu officially completed his online self-enumeration today. Registering through the official portal (se.census.gov.in), the Chief Minister kicked off the state’s awareness campaign for the first phase of Census-2027. During the session, Deep Shikha Sharma, Director of Census Operations for Himachal Pradesh, along with senior departmental officials, briefed the Chief Minister on the security, functionality, and user-friendly features of the digital census infrastructure.
Emphasizing the importance of civic participation, CM Sukhu appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh to proactively log in and complete their self-enumeration before the June 15, 2026 deadline. He stated that the Census serves as the absolute backbone of democratic governance and socio-economic development, providing the crucial data on population, housing, resources, and public service access that forms the very foundation of future welfare policies and developmental planning.
The Chief Minister revealed that Census-2027 will be executed in two distinct, digital-first phases across the state, utilizing mobile devices for seamless data collection by field staff. The first phase, comprising House Listing and Housing Census, is scheduled to run from June 16 to July 15, 2026. The second phase, involving the actual population enumeration, will be split geographically due to Himachal’s unique terrain. For snow-bound areas, the count will take place from September 11 to September 30, 2026, while the remaining areas of the state will be covered from February 9 to February 28, 2027.
Concluding his address, Sukhu urged the public to extend their full cooperation to the visiting enumerators and supervisors. He stressed that providing complete and accurate information is vital to the success of this monumental national exercise, ensuring that no citizen is left behind in future welfare schemes.
