Chamba Medical College Enters New Healthcare Phase

CM Sukhu today inaugurated the 200-bedded hospital building at Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, built at a cost of Rs. 158 crore. The facility, along with hostel and residential infrastructure, is set to strengthen healthcare delivery and medical education in the region.

The new hospital, comprising Blocks A, B and C, offers advanced patient care facilities, including OPD services in eight specialties—Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Chest and TB, Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Dental. It also includes a Casualty unit, Radiology section, Operation Theatre complex and 200 indoor beds. Services in Psychiatry, Gynaecology and Dermatology departments began immediately after the inauguration.

The Chief Minister said the new facility reflects the state government’s commitment to expanding quality healthcare services closer to people’s homes while improving facilities for doctors, medical students, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.

The project also includes modern hostel facilities, including a 150-seat MBBS Boys Hostel, 150-seat MBBS Girls Hostel and a 50-seat Nursing Hostel, along with residential quarters for faculty and staff.

He added that these facilities would create a better learning and working environment and support the effective functioning of Chamba Medical College.
