Gaiety.Fairy.Tale.20.1.16bAs the month long theater classes completed, the Department of Language, Art & Culture, Himachal Pradesh organized a cultural event as students performed on the stage to showcase their talent at Gaiety Theater, Shimla. During the event more than 70 students participated and staged different short plays including Cinderella, Snow White, The Lottery, Umeed Ki Kiran, Chari Di Kul and Thagi Ka Puraskar.

Gaiety.Fairy.Tale.20.1.16aCinderella and Snow White took the audience in the fairyland as these famous stories were enacted by the little one. Both these beauties after facing hardships in life and getting tortured by their step-mothers finally found their prince charming and lived happily ever after.

The Lottery showed aspiration of a family and day dreaming on the thought of winning a lottery ticket which they had no scope of winning.

Gaiety.Fairy.Tale.20.1.16Umeed dealt with the theme of a girl who refuses to get married to a man who comes drunk with his entire family and friends on the wedding day. She shows courage and finally refuses to get married to him and is even supported by her family.

Chari showed a story of a woman who was sacrificed for the sake of getting rid of a drought. It was based on the folklore of Himachal region.

Thagi showed how people are robbed and fooled by baba’s. It was a satire on the current situation prevailing in the society.

While speaking on occasion Anita Thakur, the drame teacher of the kids said, it was an attempt to bring out the best in each child and that she was glad that in such a short time span students managed to face the audience by overcoming their stage freight.

On the other hand parents were quiet happy seeing their little ones on the stage as many of them personally confessed that they themselves had stage fright and hence for them it was more than enough to see their kids perform so beautifully and with utmost confidence.
