CM Sukhu has taken a strong stance against non-performing hydropower developers, directing the Energy Department to serve cancellation notices to those responsible for long-stalled projects. He emphasized that such delays are causing financial losses to the state and hindering the development of its vital energy sector.

Presiding over a high-level meeting of the Power Department, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the economic benefits of hydropower — the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy — reach the common people.

In a significant move, the government has decided to reclaim major stalled projects including the 382 MW Sunni, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I, and 66 MW Dhaulasidh projects, previously allotted to SJVNL. Additionally, the CM declared that no progress will be made on the Kishau and Renuka Dam projects unless neighboring states provide concrete assurances on pending dues from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

Pump Storage and Solar Initiatives Accelerated

The BBMB has identified 4,403 MW pump storage potential on Bhakra Dam and 8,700 MW on Kol Dam, and CM Sukhu instructed the Energy Department to lead development efforts in this space to ensure Himachal reaps full benefits from these large-scale green energy projects.

To enhance power reliability in remote regions, the Chief Minister directed the c to complete the Kaza solar power project by August 2025, and to expedite a 1 MW solar project with battery backup in Dhanwas (Pangi valley) by December 2025. This initiative will ensure uninterrupted power supply to 19 snow-bound gram panchayats.

Green Panchayat and Grid Infrastructure Boost

Reviewing progress on the Green Panchayat Scheme, the CM instructed officials to fast-track implementation. He also reviewed the ongoing 450 MW Shong Tong Hydro Power Project, calling for its timely completion.

To strengthen the state’s power infrastructure, it was decided that HPSEBL will construct five new 66 kV substations, while the HP Power Transmission Corporation (HPPTCL) will establish 10 substations with 132 kV and 220 kV capacity, as per regulatory directives.

Senior officials including , Advisor Infrastructure Anil Kapil, Chairman HPSEBL Sanjay Gupta, and MDs of key energy corporations attended the meeting.
