Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today chaired a review meeting of departments and undertakings in the energy sector.
The CM directed officials to conduct thorough studies on water evaporation from dams and reservoirs during the summer months. He expressed concern over rising haze levels in several cities and emphasized the need for scientific assessment. Sukhu also called for an in-depth study to examine any correlation between water evaporation and the increasing incidents of cloudbursts.
He further instructed authorities to analyze the rate of glacier melting in the State and its implications for flood management, noting that accelerated glacier melt disrupts ecological balance and impacts the environment.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing energy sector construction projects, including hydroelectric works, and issued necessary directions. He discussed smart meters and instructed officials to carry out feeder billing mapping. Sukhu highlighted that the completion of 13 hydroelectric projects has increased the State’s power generation capacity by 1,229 megawatts.
