CM Sukhu chaired the second session of the National Conclave on “Constitutional Challenges: Perspective & Pathways”, organised by the AICC Law, Human Rights and RTI Department at Vigyan Bhawan today. The theme of the session was “Religion & the Constitution: Guardrails and Guidelines.”

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stressed that religion should remain a personal matter, and that the State must function in a secular and unbiased manner. He underlined the importance of respecting all religions equally, saying this is foundational to India’s age-old tradition of peace, unity, and brotherhood.

He further stated that India’s strength lies in its religious tolerance, and the constitutional values that uphold it. Without these values, he warned, society risks falling into conflict and division. “Religion should not be used as a tool to divide people,” he said, calling for a clear separation between religion and politics to safeguard democratic principles.

The session also featured addresses by former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Alka Lamba, Pramod Tiwari, and other prominent dignitaries.

The conclave provided a platform for critical reflection on the evolving role of constitutional values in a pluralistic society and the need to preserve secularism as envisioned by the framers of the Constitution.
