CM Sukhu flagged off 24 new state-of-the-art Volvo buses at Kyari Ghat in Solan, reaffirming the Himachal Pradesh government’s commitment to world-class public transport and green energy initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the state’s vision to become a ‘Green Energy State’. He highlighted that road transport remains the lifeline of Himachal Pradesh due to limited rail and air connectivity. The government has therefore made major investments to strengthen HRTC services — including a grant of ₹1,000 crore annually, procurement of 500 diesel buses, 300 electric buses, and nearly 30 Volvo buses over the past two years.

To further enhance public transport infrastructure, the state also plans to add 100 Tempo Travellers and expand electric charging infrastructure with a ₹110 crore investment.

The Chief Minister also underlined the state’s ongoing efforts to promote green mobility, including hydrogen-powered and electric buses, as part of a broader push toward sustainable development.

Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, marking HRTC’s 50-year milestone, said that the corporation serves around 4–5 lakh passengers daily, reaching even the most remote corners of the state. He noted the addition of approximately 250 diesel buses in the last two years, with 250 more on the way. He also mentioned infrastructure developments such as new bus stands and employee welfare initiatives, including implementation of the Old Pension Scheme and release of allowance arrears.

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil said the introduction of these luxury buses will not only provide enhanced comfort to travelers but also contribute to increasing state revenue.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, Additional Chief Secretary R.D. Nazim, HRTC MD Nipun Jindal, and others.
