Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday led an Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon in Dharamshala, joined by a large number of school students and citizens. The rally, which began from Dari Ground and concluded at Police Ground, echoed with anti-drug slogans and messages promoting a Drug-Free Himachal. Walking the entire stretch with the students, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminate chitta and other drugs from the State, interacting with children along the way and motivating them to actively participate in the fight against substance abuse. Addressing the gathering at Police Ground, he issued a stern warning to the chitta mafia, declaring that drug peddlers would find no place to hide in Devbhoomi. He highlighted that the long-unused PIT-NDPS Act has now been enforced, resulting in the detention of 46 major traffickers and the confiscation of illegal property worth ₹46 crore. Emphasizing that this drive was a mission to protect the youth, he said the fight was not only against traffickers but the entire drug network. He added that the ANTF, STF, police, and various departments, along with citizens, were united in this battle. The Chief Minister also announced cash rewards for providing information on those involved in the chitta trade, ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹10 lakh depending on the quantity recovered, with higher rewards for helping dismantle major networks. Information can be shared on emergency number 112. He administered an anti-drug pledge to the youth, while a para-glider carrying an anti-chitta message from Indru Nag added to the event’s appeal. The programme witnessed the presence of several ministers, MLAs, senior officials, and dignitaries.
