CM Sukhu convened a meeting with Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur at Thunag Rest House to assess ongoing relief, rehabilitation, and restoration efforts in the Seraj region, which has been severely impacted by recent cloudbursts and torrential rains.
The Chief Minister directed all concerned departments to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges, water, and power infrastructure, stressing the urgency of restoring essential services. The 56-km Chail Chowk–Janjheli road will be proposed for funding under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), with its DPR to be submitted within a week.
Highlighting the urgency of supporting displaced residents, CM Sukhu asked the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi to identify safe land for temporary resettlement, where prefabricated shelters can be quickly erected. The CM also emphasized assessing horticulture losses and expediting inter-departmental coordination for relief measures.
Despite the scale of destruction, 60% of drinking water schemes have already been temporarily restored. The Public Works Department has been tasked with restoring road connectivity using bailey and suspension bridges, with the state government ensuring necessary funds.
Opposition Leader Jai Ram Thakur voiced concern over the extent of destruction and stressed the urgency of rehabilitation ahead of the winter season. Both leaders agreed on the importance of a coordinated and swift response to the disaster.
Several local leaders, including former Minister Prakash Chaudhary and Congress functionaries, were present during the review meeting.
