Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today directed officials of the Public Works Department to complete the tarring work of utility ducts up to Shimla Club by May 10 and up to Lift area by June 15 this year, aimed at improving convenience for commuters.

Chairing a review meeting of the department, the Chief Minister said that ₹145 crore is being invested in the construction of utility ducts spanning seven kilometres from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park in Shimla town. He instructed officials to expedite the work and ensure its completion within the stipulated timelines.

He emphasized that Shimla, being the state capital and a major tourist destination, attracts a large number of visitors every year. To enhance the tourist experience, the city must be made free from the clutter of overhead cables. He said the project will significantly improve the aesthetic appeal of Shimla and further boost tourism.

The Chief Minister added that Shimla, known as the “Queen of Hills,” must retain its charm and beauty. The utility duct network will run from Chhota Shimla to Willy’s Park via the Secretariat, Lok Bhawan and Oak Over, and from Sher-e-Punjab through Lower Bazaar up to CTO and Willy’s Park.

These underground ducts will accommodate electric and water supply lines along with other utility cables, ensuring better infrastructure management and improving the overall appearance of the city.
