Himachal Pradesh CM paid heartfelt tributes to the valiant soldiers of the state and the nation while addressing the ‘Jai Hind Sabha’ held in Shimla today. Remembering their sacrifices, the Chief Minister stated, Today is a day to salute our bravehearts who have laid down their lives to protect the country.”

Sharing a recent experience, Sukhu spoke about his visit to Sharchi village in the Tirthan Valley, where he stayed at the home of Subedar Major Anoop Ram, a veteran of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Recalling their conversation, he said Anoop Ram reminisced about how then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s speech had boosted the morale of the Indian Army, eventually leading to a decisive victory that resulted in the formation of Bangladesh and the historic Simla Agreement.

Highlighting the bravery of Himachali soldiers, Sukhu noted that the state has the distinction of producing four recipients of the Param Vir Chakra — the nation’s highest military honor — which stands as a symbol of Himachal’s legacy of courage and sacrifice.

The Chief Minister also touched upon the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, stating that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was the first to offer unconditional support to the Centre in the fight against terrorism. He asserted that the people and government of Himachal Pradesh have always stood firmly with the Indian Armed Forces.

However, CM raised serious concerns over the Union government’s handling of national security. Referring to a recent ceasefire declaration, he said, “It is shocking that the government announced a ceasefire without consulting the three armed forces. Even more surprising is that the news was disseminated via social media from a third country.” He contrasted this with the strong and decisive leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, emphasizing that she never compromised on national security.

Concluding his address, Sukhu honored the legacy of sacrifice made by Congress leaders, including former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, who he said gave their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation. He also acknowledged the contributions of Congress workers in conflict-affected regions like Punjab and Chhattisgarh.
