CM Sukhu today flagged off a 60-member contingent from Himachal Pradesh for the National Ice Skating Championship, scheduled to be held in Dehradun from June 25 to 28, 2025. The ceremony took place at his official residence, Oak Over, where the CM extended his best wishes to the athletes and congratulated them on the occasion of International Olympics Day.
The participating athletes will compete across seven age-based categories. Highlighting the state government’s commitment to sports development, Sukhu noted the introduction of several schemes to support athletes, including increased prize money for medal winners in international events such as the Olympics, Paralympics, and Asian Games.
To further motivate players, the government has improved travel allowances—providing AC three-tier train fares for trips up to 200 kilometers and economy air travel for longer distances. Additionally, enhancements in diet allowances aim to ensure better training conditions.
The CM emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader effort to foster youth engagement in sports, steering them away from drug abuse and encouraging a healthier lifestyle.
Also present were Ikashwaku Justa, President of the Himachal Pradesh Ice Skating Association (District Shimla), and District Vice President Yogesh Sihea.
