Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a high-level review meeting of the Resilient Action for Development and Disaster Recovery–Himachal Pradesh (READY-HP) project, valued at ₹2687 crore, and termed it a crucial step towards building a disaster-resilient Himachal Pradesh.

Highlighting the increasing threat of natural disasters, the Chief Minister said that between 2023 and 2025 the state faced 86 cloudbursts, 234 landslides and 121 flash floods, leading to losses of over ₹12,500 crore. He noted that Himachal Pradesh, being part of a young and fragile Himalayan region, remains highly susceptible to such extreme events.

CM Sukhu said the READY-HP initiative is not just about restoration but about rebuilding stronger systems after disasters. The project will focus on repairing and strengthening essential infrastructure such as roads, drinking water schemes, power systems and livelihood-linked assets, while creating a structured disaster recovery framework across the state.

He further said the programme will enhance public service delivery, promote sustainable livelihood models like green panchayats, and strengthen insurance and social safety systems that are informed by risk assessment. Stressing on long-term preparedness, the Chief Minister said special attention will be given to creating durable infrastructure for farmers and horticulturists so that agriculture-based livelihoods remain stable even during natural calamities.
