CM Sukhu today conducted an on-site inspection of vulnerable locations along the under-construction 27-km Shoghi-Dhalli four-lane project in Shimla district. Visiting key areas including Bhattakufar, Sanjauli, Dhalli, and Lindidhar, he interacted with local residents and assessed the risks posed by ongoing construction work.

Residents raised strong concerns about hill-cutting operations carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), alleging that the activities have endangered lives, damaged properties, and created a persistent sense of insecurity. They also complained of being ignored by NHAI officials despite repeated appeals for intervention.

Taking serious note of the grievances, the Chief Minister directed officials to implement urgent remedial measures and prioritize public safety. He assured full support from the State Government, including monthly rental assistance of ₹10,000 for families forced to vacate unsafe homes. A special relief package will also be provided to those who have suffered losses due to construction-related disasters.

“People build homes over a lifetime. Their collapse is not just economic but a deep emotional trauma,” the Chief Minister said, adding that he would raise the matter with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

He emphasized the importance of involving local contractors familiar with the terrain and urged NHAI to consider modern construction techniques, including tunnel-based alternatives, to reduce environmental and structural risks in hilly regions.

To address ongoing concerns, the District Administration has formed a 12-member committee under the Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) to identify vulnerable stretches along the highway and recommend corrective action. Additionally, a separate five-member panel led by the ADM (Law & Order) will investigate the recent building collapse in Bhattakufar.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, Principal Advisor (Media) Naresh Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, and other senior officials during the visit.
