CM Sukhu unveiled a major healthcare upgrade at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital, Nerchowk in Mandi district, inaugurating a ₹23-crore MRI machine alongside a ₹2.29-crore Tertiary Care Cancer Centre equipped with LINAC and CT Simulator units. During his visit, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a ₹51-crore PET Scan Machine Block, reinforcing the administration’s push toward advanced diagnostic infrastructure.
Interacting with the college faculty and students, CM Sukhu outlined key strategic reforms aimed at modernizing Himachal’s healthcare system. He announced plans to scale up the institution’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity by adding 25 to 30 beds, alongside establishing automated laboratories across all state medical colleges to streamline diagnostic testing from single samples. To expand specialized care and advanced training, the state is adding 320 Postgraduate (PG) medical seats this year, initiating Senior Residency (SR) programs at Nerchowk and Tanda, and filling 800 technical and paramedical posts. Additionally, 123 nurses have been posted at Nerchowk with further recruitments planned, and the government is preparing an international exposure visit program for MBBS students and faculty to learn global best practices.
