Sukhu inaugurated two key infrastructure projects in the Shimla district today: the long-awaited Theog Bus Stand, constructed at a cost of ₹14.84 crore, and a modern Fruit & Vegetable Market Complex at Shilaru, built at ₹23 crore.
Addressing a large public gathering, the CM said the 12-year-old demand for a functional bus stand in Theog has finally been met. The facility includes all essential amenities for passengers and HRTC staff. A new shopping complex will be developed at the site of the old bus stand, he added.
The CM emphasized that the Shilaru Market Complex will serve as a reliable platform for local farmers and orchardists to sell their produce at fair prices. In a major announcement, he revealed that a ₹26 crore winery project at Parala will commence soon to benefit apple growers and promote value addition.
To further boost regional infrastructure, the CM announced:
-
Construction of a Mini Secretariat in Theog with full government funding
-
A new HRTC sub-depot and workshop
-
Strengthening of Theog Hospital with essential medical equipment
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming IGMC Shimla and Tanda Medical College into institutions at par with AIIMS, backed by a ₹1,350 crore investment in healthcare modernization and recruitment of doctors, nurses, and Rogi Mitras.
CM Sukhu spoke about timely restoration of road connectivity in the wake of the 2023 natural disaster, ensuring unhindered apple transportation. He mentioned the introduction of Universal Cartons in his first year to reduce input costs for growers and voiced strong opposition to apple imports, which hurt local farmers.
“We have requested the Prime Minister to restrict apple imports, especially from countries like the US and Turkey,” he said.
In a significant update, the CM informed that Shipki-La Pass, bordering China, has now been opened to tourists, and the government is exploring the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route via Shipki-La, boosting spiritual and adventure tourism
Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, and MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore praised the CM’s leadership and reiterated their commitment to Theog’s development. Rathore thanked the CM for completing the bus stand and supporting apple farmers, calling for a ban on harmful imports. He assured that the Kurpan Water Supply Scheme, already funded with ₹300 crore, would soon resolve Theog’s drinking water issues.
