CM Sukhu marked the 79th Himachal Day by unfurling the National Flag at a state-level function held in Reckong Peo, where celebrations took place with enthusiasm across Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister took the salute at an impressive march past led by DSP Umeshwar Rana, featuring contingents from ITBP, police, Home Guards, SDRF, and school NCC units. He extended greetings to the people and paid tributes to Yashwant Singh Parmar and Indira Gandhi for their contributions to the state’s formation.

Announcing key welfare measures, Sukhu declared a monthly assistance of Rs. 1,500 for eligible women in Kinnaur under the Indira Gandhi Dear Sisters Happiness Honour Fund scheme. He also unveiled plans for a geothermal-based central heating system in Reckong Peo, alongside Rs. 8 crore for the Tranda tunnel project and the upgradation of educational institutions in the region. The Polytechnic College will be shifted from Rohru to Urni.

Highlighting infrastructure and connectivity, he said heli-taxi services between Reckong Peo and Shimla have commenced, while major power and road projects, including the Pooh-Kaza transmission line, are underway to benefit thousands in tribal areas. He also announced the likely resumption of border trade through Shipki-La from June 1 and efforts to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route.

In administrative decisions, the Chief Minister withdrew the 3 percent salary deferment for Class I and II officers and assured clearance of pending dues for retired Class IV employees. He also announced an honorary one-rank promotion on retirement for eligible non-gazetted police personnel.

Addressing financial challenges, Sukhu noted the discontinuation of Revenue Deficit Grant, but reiterated the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and people-centric policies, especially for farmers and rural communities. He highlighted increased MSP for agricultural produce, support for natural farming, and new initiatives for fishermen and horticulturists.

The Chief Minister also outlined reforms in healthcare, including expansion of robotic surgery and diagnostic facilities, and in education, with 151 government schools being affiliated with CBSE. He emphasized tourism development with major investments planned at religious sites.

The function concluded with vibrant cultural performances. Earlier, the Chief Minister also laid foundation stones and inaugurated key local development projects in the region.
