HP CM Sukhu today met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to seek urgent support for the repair and reconstruction of roads severely damaged due to recent flash floods in the state.
During the meeting, CM Sukhu emphasized the need for immediate assistance to restore road connectivity, especially in flood-affected regions. He requested the inclusion of select roads under the PM Gati Shakti Yojana to ensure integrated and speedy development.
Highlighting delays in various National Highway projects, the Chief Minister urged for early resolution of issues hampering progress and sought swift commencement of pending construction work. He stressed the importance of adopting tunneling methods in hilly terrain to make highway infrastructure more resilient and efficient.
The CM also raised the matter of strategically significant roads already taken up with the Ministry of Defence, requesting faster action on those as well. Additionally, he appealed for the approval of more ropeway projects to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in the hill state.
Union Minister Gadkari assured full cooperation and directed concerned officials to provide all necessary support.
Also present during the meeting were MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, PWD Secretary Abhishek Jain, Principal Resident Commissioner Sushil Kumar Singla, along with senior officials from NHAI and the Ministry.
