Committee Formed to Assess Damage to Houses in Chalonthi: Deputy Commissioner

A committee has been constituted to assess the damage caused to residential houses in Chalonthi following cracks that developed during four-lane road construction work. Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap said that the committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shimla Rural Manjeet Sharma. The committee has been directed to submit a detailed report within one week, on the basis of which the process of compensation for the affected families will be initiated.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the State Geologist has also begun preparing a separate report to ascertain the causes of the damage and will submit findings within a week. He informed that as soon as the administration received information late at night, the affected houses were evacuated immediately to ensure the safety of residents. All possible assistance is being provided to the affected families by the district administration. Meanwhile, the four-lane construction work at the site has been completely halted as a precautionary measure.

Anupam Kashyap also visited the affected area in Chalonthi and inspected the damaged houses. He interacted with the affected residents and assured them of full support from the administration. Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma, SDM Shimla Rural Manjeet Sharma and other officers were present during the inspection.
