The cheerful and patriotic zeal marked the 69th Independence Day celebrations in various schools across India, and the students of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla too celebrated this day with great fervor here today in the school premise. The celebration began with the traditional guard of honour by the Cottonions given to the chief guest for the morning, Headmaster, R.C. Robinson. The impressive show was followed by the unfurling of the national flag by the chief guest. The three wings of NCC — the Army, Navel and the Air Force — performed the parade with sheer perfection on the beats of school band. On the dismissal of the parade everybody applauded their efforts. The parade ended with a loud and proud tune of the National Anthem.
Thereafter, everyone assembled in the Holy Trinity Chapel for a special Independence Day service. The proceedings began with the singing of a hymn followed by recital of the opening prayer by the Headmaster. Remembering the second speech given by Lord Mountbatten, the Viceroy of India in Bishop Cotton School, Shimla way back on 21st May, 1947, the Headmaster read out a few excerpts from his speech followed by scripture reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians, Chapter 5, Verse 1, 13-16.
The school choir too sung beautiful tunes patriotic song such as Saare Jahan Se Acha. The exceptional and remarkable ceremony of placing the national flag at the altar was also a part of the celebration. The program concluded with the singing of National Anthem, the school prayer and benediction by the Headmaster.
