Cottons Hosts Participating Teams for Much-Awaited Slater’s Debate

The Slater Debates imbibes the values of rational, higher-order critical thinking skills enabling the articulation of analytical reasoning. Debating fosters the capacity to understand different perspectives and construct well-reasoned arguments based on evidence and logic. Additionally, debate encourages active listening and the respectful exchange of ideas, promoting intellectual growth and empathy. The management of Bishop Cotton School aims to provide a safe space for students from all around the country and abroad to express themselves through debating. These values enhance growth in society for the better, as change is the result of all true learning. A student’s all-rounded development occurs through testing skills outside academic and athletic parameters. Extracurricular activities enable profound character development and team building.

The commencement of this prestigious inter-school English debate competition, is a significant step towards fostering the values of critical thinking, constructive dialogue, and intellectual growth. The arrival of the participating teams marks the beginning of a thought-provoking and enriching exchange of ideas, where students will engage in respectful and intellectual discourse. Today, through a draw of lots, the teams for pre-qualifiers were selected. Through these debates, all will have an opportunity to witness the demonstration of analytical reasoning and the expression of diverse perspectives by the students.

The Slater Debates promises to be a thrilling and enriching experience for all participants and spectators alike, as it will be an intellectual showdown and all will witness the exchange of innovative ideas. And at the same time, it will not only challenge the wits but also inspire the spirit of the young participants.
