Governor Kavinder Gupta today graced the closing ceremony of the 71st Annual Function and All India Drama and Dance Competition organised by the All India Artists Association at the Kali Bari Temple auditorium in Shimla.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor commended the Association for its outstanding contribution over the past 70 years in promoting Indian art, culture, and national integration. He said the organisation has provided a meaningful platform for artists from across the country, helping bridge regional, linguistic, and cultural divides through theatre, dance, music, and other performing arts.

He observed that art goes beyond entertainment and serves as a powerful tool to promote social harmony, sensitivity, and unity. Artists, he said, play a vital role as cultural ambassadors in strengthening the foundation of nation-building.

The Governor also appreciated the Association’s continued efforts in encouraging young and emerging talent and promoting amateur theatre by offering them opportunities at the national level. Such initiatives, he noted, not only preserve India’s cultural legacy but also keep younger generations connected with their traditions.

Referring to the Association’s long-standing presence in Himachal Pradesh, particularly Shimla, he said it has become an integral part of the state’s cultural fabric. The city, he added, has for decades welcomed artists from across India who come together to celebrate creativity, artistic excellence, and cultural unity.

The festival saw participation from over 800 artists representing 18 states, who showcased a wide range of vibrant cultural performances.

On the occasion, the Governor presented the Balraj Sahni Award to Satish Verma and Dinesh Khanna for their notable contributions to the field of art.

Earlier, the Governor offered prayers at the Kalibari Temple.

Rohitash Gour, President of the All India Artists Association, and Vice President Rekha Gour were also present at the event.
