Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, inaugurated a 500 KW solar power plant in Dharech Gram Panchayat of the Kasumpti Assembly Constituency, marking a key step towards sustainable development in the state.
With the commissioning of the project, Dharech has earned the distinction of becoming the first “Green Panchayat” in Himachal Pradesh. The solar plant, built at a cost of approximately Rs. 1.94 crore, began construction in January 2025 and was connected to the power grid on March 30, 2026.
The Chief Minister stated that the plant is expected to generate around 3,000 units of clean energy daily, with an annual output of nearly eight lakh units. Under an agreement, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited will procure the electricity at Rs. 3.50 per unit, ensuring an estimated yearly income of about Rs. 28 lakh for the Gram Panchayat.
Highlighting the broader impact, Sukhu described the initiative as a model for inclusive growth and rural self-reliance. He noted that the revenue generated would be allocated across multiple sectors—30 percent for local development works, 20 percent for the welfare of orphans and widows, 20 percent to the state government, 10 percent to Himurja, and the remaining 20 percent for maintenance and operational costs.
The project, with an expected lifespan of 25 years, is aimed at promoting clean energy adoption, strengthening rural economies, and improving the livelihoods of local residents.
