Retro is back in a big way. We salute the trend with our Stage Documentary on a singing legend.
Titled, ‘Talat Mahmood: Superstar Singer, Reluctant Actor’, the performance is based on an award-winning biography by Mahmood’s grand niece, Sahar Zaman. The biography was launched earlier this year in Delhi as well as at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Mumbai.
The production is a creative mix of narration, theatre, film and dance. It is conceived and directed by actor- director Sohaila Kapur. The production will open at The Theatre, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on June 21, 2024 at 7.00PM.
Writer Sahar Zaman will address the audience sharing her experiences while working on a book on her grand uncle, whom she visited often during childhood. The performance will resonate with the audience, as Talat Mahmood was the king of playback singing during the golden period of Bollywood. Besides, the unique, first-of-a-kind format it will be very engaging for the audience.
For Three Arts Club, it’s a double celebration. The group completes its 81st year during Mahmood’s centenary this year. The singer and the group actually came together for a private concert in the early 60s and so, it’s also about celebrating an old friendship! Talat Mahmood, the Stage Documentary, is a Three Arts Club & Katyayani Walking Art Production.
