Governor Kavinder Gupta launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation campaign at Jutogh Cantonment, calling for collective action to combat climate change and protect the environment.
The Governor said climate change, rising temperatures and pollution are major challenges, and large-scale plantation with public participation can help address them. He planted an Araucaria sapling during the campaign organised by Prarthana Social Welfare Society.
Describing the initiative as more than a plantation drive, he said it reflects India’s cultural values and gratitude towards nature and mothers. He urged youth and students to not only plant saplings but also ensure their survival.
The Governor highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s rich forests and biodiversity, stressing the need for collective efforts to preserve natural resources. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh also emphasized sustainable development and encouraged students to adopt and care for saplings.
Later, the Governor visited the Cantonment Museum, where he was honoured by the Commanding Officer.
