Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, is hosting the prestigious 21st Major R K Von Goldstein Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament, bringing together some of the most renowned schools from across the country. The tournament, known for its high standard of play, promises exciting cricket matches and showcases young cricketing talent from various parts of India.

  3. Mayo College, Ajmer
  4. La Martiniere, Lucknow
  5. Daly College, Indore
  6. Vasant Valley School, Delhi
  7. Yadvindra Public School, Mohali
  8. Pinegrove School, Dharampur

The tournament commenced on Sunday with a traditional march past, accompanied by the BCS brass band. The opening match between hosts Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, and Pinegrove School, Dharampur, was a thrilling encounter, with BCS emerging victorious by one wicket. The nail-biting match kept supporters on the edge of their seats and was streamed live on the school’s Facebook account, garnering support from around the world.

Simon Weale, Director, Bishop Cotton School, inaugurated the tournament, expressing his excitement about providing a platform for young cricketing talent in India. He highlighted the success stories of former students like Mayank Dagar, who represented BCS in the tournament and is now playing in the IPL. Dagar fondly remembers his time at the Goldstein tournament, where his talent was recognized, leading to opportunities at higher levels of cricket.

Mayank Dagar, a part of the RCB franchise, reminisces about the tournament, saying, “Winning games for my school was the best feeling, especially in the Goldstein tournament. I was pumped up to win for BCS, and that’s where they saw my talent. I went on to play for the HP State team and got my break into the Under 19 World Cup team, followed by IPL and Ranji Trophy.”

Major R K Von Goldstein, a former Headmaster of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, was the only former student to become the Head of the School (1963 – 1976). He was also a Cambridge Scholar, leaving behind a remarkable legacy.

The tournament will see three matches played each day, culminating in the grand final on Thursday, 25th April.
