Chief Electoral Officer of Himachal Pradesh, Nandita Gupta, announced a significant improvement in the female voter gender ratio in the Shillai and Bharmour Assembly constituencies, following the final publication of the Photo Electoral Rolls–2025.
She highlighted that while the state’s overall female voter gender ratio stands at 981, Shillai in Sirmaur district previously had the lowest at 820, followed by Bharmour in Chamba at 930. However, due to targeted efforts, Shillai saw an increase from 820 to 831 and Bharmour from 930 to 949 in just 45 days.
To address the gender imbalance, a special campaign was launched. Electoral officials cross-checked electoral rolls with family registers maintained by panchayat secretaries. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) then conducted door-to-door verification, ensuring eligible but unregistered women were enrolled, including those temporarily residing outside due to studies or work.
CEO Gupta personally visited Shillai on June 4th and 5th, 2025, to assess on-ground implementation and directed officials to intensify outreach. Regular progress reporting was also mandated across districts.
This rapid improvement, Gupta stated, reflects the electoral system’s proactive and coordinated efforts toward inclusive voter participation. Similar initiatives will continue to strengthen accuracy and equity in the electoral rolls.
