The Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana has become a life-changing support system for thousands of children across Himachal Pradesh. Real Stories of Change

“We are deeply thankful to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Because of him, our children are now able to pursue their education and fulfill their dreams. We wish to see such a compassionate government again and again.”

Asha lost her son five years ago and now lives with her daughter-in-law, Pooja Puri, and two granddaughters. Facing extreme financial hardship, the family struggled to make ends meet—let alone afford school expenses. But everything changed when they enrolled under the Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana.

“After my husband’s death, it became very difficult to continue the children’s education. Now we receive Rs. 1,000 per month for each daughter. It has lifted a huge burden,” says Pooja.

Similarly, Varsha from Luj village in Pangi Valley (Chamba) lost her father in 2014. As the sole breadwinner, his death shattered the family financially.

“My mother could not afford our education. This scheme gave us support when we needed it most. I am thankful to the Chief Minister,” says Varsha.
