Shimla: In a significant New Year gesture, the Himachal Pradesh Government has provided employment to 202 individuals who had been awaiting appointments on compassionate grounds for a long time. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu described the move as a “New Year gift” aimed at restoring dignity and financial security to affected families.
Out of the total appointments, 127 Class-III and Class-IV posts have been filled in the Education Department, including positions of Junior Office Assistant (IT) and Multi-Task Workers. In the Home Department, 74 individuals have been appointed—70 as Junior Office Assistant (IT) and four in Class-IV posts—while one appointment has been made in the Prosecution Department.
The Chief Minister said that during the previous BJP government’s tenure, many families seeking compassionate employment were ignored, leaving their rightful claims unattended and pushing them into prolonged uncertainty. He stated that the present government, after understanding the hardship faced by these families, has taken decisive steps to provide them much-needed relief.
CM Sukhu emphasized that the State Government is committed to ensuring that such families are able to lead a respectable life, as originally envisioned under the compassionate appointment policy. “Our government is dedicated to restoring dignity and providing the security these families were promised, so that they do not continue to suffer,” he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the welfare of vulnerable families remains a top priority of the State Government and that similar people-centric decisions would continue in the future.
