Governor Rajender Vishwanath Arlekar honoured Nishad Kumar, who won silver medal in high jump in Tokyo Paralympic at Raj Bhavan today. Nishad was accompanied by his family and coach.
On this occasion, the Governor said that Nishad has not only showcased his talent with his performance but has also brought pride to the country. He said that his achievement has given hopes to the sportspersons of the state. He has proved that with hardwork and dedication anything can be achieved. He said that the struggle of Nishad is an example of this. He expressed hope that Nishad would achieve new heights and encourage others to win as well.
Governor said that the youth of today is restricted to mobile and electronic gadgets within closed doors. He felt the need to open sports school in the state as the geographical condition of the state has the potential to give rise to good sportsmen. He said that good environment motivates the spirit of the sports. Therefore it is important to have positive environment. He expressed hope that Nishad would win gold medal for the country in Asian Games next year.
Nishad said that the honour given to him by state government has given him new energy.
Nishad’s coach Naseem Ahmed said that there is no dearth of talent in Himachal Pradesh and it is important to explore the talent.
Nishad’s father Rashpal Singh and mother Pushpa Devi showed happiness on the achievement of their son. Nishad’s sister Rama Devi and brother Pankaj Kaundal said that their brother has always been hard working and they were sure that he would bring the medal.
State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Samson Masih was also present on the occasion.
