Governor Kavinder Gupta on Sunday underscored the importance of civil society and community leadership in nation-building, saying that true leadership lies in understanding public needs and driving meaningful social change.

Speaking at the Club Leadership Learning Seminar organised by Rotary District 3070 in Jammu, the Governor lauded the enthusiastic participation of delegates from Jammu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, describing it as a reflection of strong social commitment and service spirit.

Praising Rotary International’s motto, “Service Above Self,” he said the organisation has emerged as a global force for humanitarian work through initiatives in healthcare, education, women empowerment, environmental protection, disaster relief and social welfare.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” Gupta said social organisations and volunteers would play a decisive role in transforming India into a developed nation. He stressed that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collective efforts of the government and society.

Highlighting challenges such as drug abuse, environmental degradation, mental stress and growing social disconnect among youth, the Governor said these issues require active community participation and cannot be tackled by the government alone.

Encouraging youth to channel their energy and creativity towards public service, he remarked that leadership should not be confined to personal success but must contribute to the welfare of society.

The Governor also appreciated Rotary Clubs for conducting blood donation camps, plantation drives, health awareness programmes, educational support initiatives and disaster relief activities, saying such efforts embody the true essence of leadership.

Calling for responsible fuel consumption, Gupta urged citizens to adopt public transport, carpooling and fuel-saving practices in daily life to reduce pollution and lessen the country’s fuel import burden. He appealed to Rotary Clubs to lead awareness campaigns on fuel conservation, noting that collective small efforts can bring significant national impact.

He congratulated Rotary Club Jammu Tawi and Rotary District 3070 for successfully organising the seminar and extended his best wishes for their future social initiatives.
