In a major encouragement for sports talent in Himachal Pradesh, Hamirpur will soon get a new synthetic athletics track at the Anu Degree College playground. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of a two-day district athletics championship.
Executive Officer of the Sports Authority of India’s Hamirpur centre, Divya Tiwari, said the upgraded track will provide better training facilities to budding athletes and help strengthen the district’s sporting culture.
Around 900 athletes from different parts of the district are participating in the championship, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for athletics among the youth.
Addressing participants, Divya Tiwari said Hamirpur’s synthetic track has played a key role in producing talented players who have excelled at state, national, and international levels. She mentioned athletes like Manisha, Priya, Shivali, and Suhani for bringing recognition to the state through their performances.
She added that athletes and sports organisations had been demanding the renovation of the Anu College synthetic track for a long time, and the Sports Authority has now moved forward to fulfill the demand.
The official also praised the District Athletic Association for promoting sports among youth and running awareness campaigns against drug abuse. According to organisers, thousands of school students and young players have joined the initiative aimed at encouraging a healthy and disciplined lifestyle through sports.
District Athletic Association President Pankaj Bhartiya said Hamirpur athletes secured one international medal, two national medals, and more than 60 state-level medals over the past year. He informed that winners of the current championship will represent Hamirpur in the state athletics competition scheduled in Bilaspur next month.
The event was attended by coaches, sports officials, and several sports enthusiasts from across the district.
