Kullu’s airwaves resonated with a fresh local voice today as the Governor inaugurated Radio Kullu 90.4 FM, an initiative led by the Samphia Foundation. Sponsored by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the station has been dedicated in memory of the late Vidisha Bhardwaj, with Lady Governor Bindu Gupta also gracing the occasion. In an exclusive inaugural interview on the station, the Governor spoke warmly about safeguarding local traditions, the timeless legacy of the Kullu Dussehra, and the enduring charm of radio. Nostalgically looking back at his childhood, he recalled how his father, an employee of the Postal Department, lived through an era when owning a radio required an official license, fondly remembering when the device was a proud household possession and a central feature of village chaupals.
Highlighting the medium’s modern relevance, the Governor credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat for successfully breathing new life into radio culture across the digital age. Adding a personal touch to the event, he also recited self-composed verses, sharing inspiring thoughts on courage and determination alongside lighthearted reflections on daily life.
