Governor Shukla emphasized that education should extend beyond academic achievements to building character, shaping responsible citizens, and contributing to nation-building. He was addressing the audience as Chief Guest at the Shimla ke Medhavi programme organized by a regional media group at Himachal Pradesh University today.

At the ceremony, over 450 meritorious students from more than 40 schools across Shimla district were honoured for their academic excellence.

The Governor highlighted the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in daily life and advised students to use it wisely. “AI is driven by the data we provide — it must be handled with responsibility,” he stated, cautioning students against distractions from platforms like YouTube and encouraging them to focus on purposeful, goal-oriented learning. He pointed out that India is advancing rapidly in the fields of technology and AI, opening abundant opportunities for the youth.

“Students are the architects of tomorrow. Their attitude today will shape the future,” said the Governor. He reiterated that education should not only lead to employment but must also build empowered individuals who can contribute to a culturally rich and strong India. He praised the National Education Policy for embracing this broader vision and offering diverse opportunities for youth development.

Drawing from India’s scientific heritage, he reminded the audience of the country’s historic contributions like the decimal system, and cited Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as a role model in education and innovation. “Whatever the career path, the spirit of learning must remain constant,” he remarked, emphasizing the role of teachers as lifelong learners and guides.

The Governor also praised Himachal Pradesh University’s efforts in supporting his anti-drug campaign, appreciating initiatives like including a drug-free pledge in student admissions. He lauded the programme organizers for honouring academic talent, saying such recognition motivates students to strive for excellence.

During the event, he launched the ‘Kalam of Himachal’ initiative, introduced by Vidyapeeth Institute, aimed at fostering innovation and inspiration among youth.

In his welcome address, Prof. Mahavir Singh, Vice Chancellor of HPU, highlighted the university’s upcoming focus areas, including energy, cybersecurity, and data science, and announced the establishment of three new centres for the same. He acknowledged the challenges AI presents in education and urged students to face them with resilience.

The event also featured addresses by Director Ravinder Awasthi and Ramesh Sharma of Vidyapeeth Institute. Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma along with parents, educators, faculty members, and dignitaries, were present at the occasion.
