Governor, today inaugurated a large-scale anti-drug awareness rally in Rohru, Shimla district, drawing enthusiastic participation from thousands of school students, Mahila Mandal members, and Panchayati Raj representatives. The rally marched through the Rohru market towards Raja Virbhadra Singh Government College, Seema, with students carrying banners and posters promoting a drug-free message.
The event concluded with a public gathering at the college grounds, attended by Governor Shukla, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, and MLA Mohan Lal Brakta.
Addressing the audience, the Governor praised the students’ enthusiasm and urged every citizen to join this vital mission. “This campaign transcends politics; it is a commitment to save Himachal,” he said. Highlighting rising drug-related deaths, he emphasized the urgent need for united action against drug abuse.
Inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision, the Governor appreciated the state government and legislators for enacting strong anti-drug laws. “I stand here not for politics but to protect the future of our youth from addiction,” he asserted.
He further noted that Himachal Pradesh is renowned not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich cultural and spiritual heritage — a legacy that must remain free of drugs. “Our youth must embrace knowledge and culture, leaving no room for addiction,” he added.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur lauded the Governor’s extensive experience and commitment to raising awareness on critical social issues. He highlighted the agricultural wealth of upper Shimla, especially horticulture, which depends on drug-free youth. Thakur also voiced concern over declining population growth and the rising threat of synthetic drugs, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance.
Local MLA Mohan Lal Brakta welcomed Rohru as the campaign’s starting point and pledged his full support in spreading the anti-drug message across his constituency, promising to organize more awareness events.
The program featured an expert presentation by Dr. Akil Sharma on narcotics and public health. Seema College Principal Lalita Rawat offered the vote of thanks, while students showcased a cultural performance.
