Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Friday inaugurated the 8th National Book Fair being organised at the historic Ridge in Shimla. The book fair is being organised under the joint aegis of Centre for Art and Readership Development (OCARD India), Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch and Municipal Corporation, Shimla. The book fair is being organised from 21st to 30th June at Padamdev Complex, Shimla.

The Governor appreciated the special contribution of Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch as the local convener of the fair and its successful efforts to promote book culture in Shimla for the last eight years.

The Governor said that there is no better friend than books and hence he too has come to this book fair to meet his friends. He said that in today’s digital environment where the reading habit is declining day-by-day, the role of such an event becomes very important. Through this event, books on different subjects, streams and thoughts have been brought together under one roof and this would surely benefit the readers, he added. He emphasized that such events should be organised regularly not only in Shimla but in other districts of Himachal as well.

Rakesh Gupta, Director, OCARD India and S.R. Harnot, President, Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch welcomed the Governor on the occasion.
