Governor Presides Over ‘Chhatra Samvad’ programme on NEP-2020

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that National Education Policy (NEP) was a document of our vision of success. He urged to work according to the policy in the education sector. He was speaking during the ‘Chhatra Samvad’ programme on National Education Policy-2020 organized by Himachal Pradesh State Higher Education Council in the Government College Solan in Solan District today. He said that discussion on NEP was being held across the nation and expressed contentment that the NEP was being discussed in the colleges so that work could be done in this direction. He asked the students and teachers to discuss and debate about the policy with open mind. Shri Arlekar said that NEP had been prepared completely by the academicians, which connects us with our soil.

He said that this policy did not oppose any other language, but it definitely emphasizes on the mother tongue as our thoughts, rituals and behavior were always rooted in our mother tongue only. The Governor said that Macaulay’s education policy destroyed our education system through a well-planned conspiracy. Now, NEP would decolonize our colonial education system, he added.  “Over the years, our educational system has produced job seekers only.  Today, we have to become self-reliant and create an educational system which could produce job providers, and National Education Policy will go a long way in this direction”, said Arlekar. He said that it would prove effective in the direction of making the country self-reliant. He said that research component has been introduced in the college level under NEP and all facilities would be provided in the colleges for research work. He said that instead of single line institutes multi faculty institutes have been established. He said that under the policy every student has its “Academic Bank of Credit” and it would be registered and has separate portal for every student.

Prof. Sunil Gupta, Chairman, State Higher Education Council in his address said that students and teachers were the main stakeholders of NEP-2020 due to which the council had decided to organise the sensitisation programme in the colleges. He said that under the Policy structure change in the education system has been done and it had been prepare by the renowned educationist of the country. It has focused on regional and local languages and books on related languages would be provided to the students. He also detailed about the various aspects and merits of NEP.  Dr. Rita Sharma, Principal, Government College Solan welcomed the Governor on the occasion. An interactive session was also organized on the occasion. Prof. Rajender Verma proposed a vote of thanks. Kritika Kulhari, Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Virender Sharma, Suprintendent of Police and other officers from district administration were also present on the occasion.
