Governor Shukla inaugurated the International Boxing Championship at the historic Ridge Ground today. Organized by the Himachal Pradesh Professional Boxing Association, the event carries a strong social message under the theme “Say No to Drugs – Say Yes to Sports.”

In his address, the Governor said the championship was a meaningful tribute to six-time CM late Raja Virbhadra Singh, celebrating both his leadership and his contribution to Himachal’s development. The presence of boxers from India and abroad reflects the values of unity, respect, and international camaraderie through sports, he noted.

Calling sports a vital force for positive change, the Governor urged youth to embrace athletics not just for fitness but for building discipline and focus. He linked regular sports participation to a reduction in drug abuse, stating, “A healthy youth means a strong nation. Sports build character, mental strength, and keep youth away from destructive habits.”

Expressing concern over the growing menace of drug addiction in Himachal, the Governor posed a powerful question: Will Himachal remain a Dev Bhoomi, or turn into a land of addiction?” He emphasized that the fight against drugs requires collective action from society.

He also praised PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh for actively supporting youth-focused initiatives and anti-drug campaigns.

The Governor also witnessed an exciting match between Indian and Russian boxers, marking a high-energy start to the championship.

Earlier, President of the Himachal Pradesh Professional Boxing Association, Mohinder Stan, welcomed the Governor and thanked him for his continued encouragement.

The event was attended by Justice Trilok Chauhan (Chief Justice, Jharkhand High Court), Justice Ajay Mohan Goel (HP High Court), MLAs Nand Lal and Harish Janartha, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Secretary to the Governor Chander Prakash Verma, and General Secretary of the Boxing Association Yadupati Thakur, among others.
