Governor Kavinder Gupta said Lord Buddha’s teachings remain highly relevant in today’s world facing violence, intolerance, conflict and environmental challenges. He said values of compassion, non-violence and the middle path can guide the creation of a peaceful society.

He was speaking at a national seminar titled “From Nalanda to the Himalayas – The Unbroken Legacy of the Buddhist Knowledge Tradition” at Tashi Jong, Baijnath. Quoting the Dhammapada, he said hatred can only be ended through love and compassion.

The Governor highlighted Nalanda’s legacy as a global centre of learning in fields like philosophy, science and mathematics, noting that Buddhist institutions in the Himalayas have preserved this knowledge and cultural heritage.

He welcomed the initiative to introduce the NIOS curriculum in monasteries, saying it would help monks and nuns gain formal education alongside traditional learning.

He urged youth to adopt Nalanda values of discipline, curiosity and service, adding that combining ancient wisdom with modern science is key to achieving Viksit Bharat 2047.
