Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla released the book “Ashadh Ka Pratham Diwas” today at Raj Bhavan. Authored by Prithi Pal Singh, Managing Director of the Himachal Pradesh Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation, the book is a poetic Hindi adaptation of the timeless Sanskrit classic Meghadootam by Mahakavi Kalidasa.
This modern rendition seeks to capture the lyrical beauty, imagination, and emotional depth of Kalidasa’s original work, while making it accessible to contemporary readers—especially students and young literary enthusiasts.
The foreword has been penned by Shanta Kumar, former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and noted author, who praised the book as a remarkable literary contribution. The cover design, created by Padma Shri Vijay Sharma, an internationally renowned miniature artist from Chamba, adds a distinct artistic touch to the publication.
Speaking at the launch, the Governor emphasized that Kalidasa’s work embodies the soul of Indian literature and culture. He lauded the poetic Hindi presentation of Meghadootam as a significant literary achievement that bridges classical tradition with modern expression.
Author Prithi Pal Singh shared that the book is the result of his long-standing engagement with literature and a deep admiration for Kalidasa’s legacy. He expressed hope that “Ashadh Ka Pratham Diwas” would resonate with readers and evoke the same aesthetic joy that defines the original classic.
