Hamirpur Medical College to Get Rs 400 Crore Boost

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today reviewed the functioning of Dr. Radha Krishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur and directed the authorities to provide better health facilities to the patients. He said that modern machines equipped with world-class technology were being installed in the new campus of this medical college being built at a cost of more than Rs 400 crore in Jol Sappad and facility of 292 beds would be available there for the patients.

Moreover, other modern machines including three Tesla MRI machines, high-end X-ray machines, digital mammography, CT scan and ultrasound machines would be made available in the medical college. Apart from this, 10-10 beds would also be available in two ICU wards. The Chief Minister said a critical care unit was also being prepared at a cost of Rs 20 crore in Jol-Sappad. The medical college had been connected to double supply of electricity to avoid any difficulty in treatment.

He also directed to start water facility in the campus within 15 days. Shri Sukhu said that Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and other teachers had been posted in Hamirpur Medical College and efforts were being made to increase the seats in PG courses. He said that more doctors would be deployed in those departments which had more patients. He said walk-in interviews would be conducted to fill up the posts of doctors and steps would also be taken to overcome the shortage of paramedical staff.

He said that the Cabinet had approved deployment of 150 staff nurses and additional nurses and paramedical staff would be deployed as per the requirement in the campus. The doctors and nurses would be made available in Hamirpur Medical College as per international standards, so that patients get good treatment and doctors and other staff get a better working environment. The Chief Minister said the Department of Emergency Medicine, radiology and Cardiology were the backbone of any medical college and these facilities would be strengthened in Hamirpur Medical College.

Along with this, it had also proposed to construct a 200-bed mother and child hospital and two hostels for the girl students. He said that all the medical colleges would also have their own modern labs for testing the patients. He said that in the second phase of the medical college construction, a 300-bedded medical block, state cancer hospital, super specialty and nursing college and other facilities for students and patients will be constructed. Health Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil, MLA Ranjit Rana, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Sunil Sharma, Chairman of Kangra Cooperative Bank Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Ram Chandra Pathania, Congress leader Dr. Pushpinder Verma, Rajiv Rana, Secretary Health M Sudha Devi, Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh and senior officers of the Health Department were present on the occasion.
