In a unique blend of sports, environmental conservation, and community action, members of the Himalayan Adventure Sports & Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) joined forces with local officials to plant 50 saplings along Shimla’s Kamyana Hill Trail. The drive brought together cyclists, nature enthusiasts, and Forest Department leaders under a shared philosophy: those who use mountain trails for recreation must also serve as their long-term guardians.

The initiative saw active participation from Forest Department officials, including Chief Conservator of Forests K. Thirumal and DFO Shimla Aniket, along with HASTPA Founder Mohit Sood and national cyclists Akshit Gaur and Gaurav Negi. By riding to the venue and planting young trees directly along the paths they frequent, the cycling community demonstrated how outdoor sports can serve as a catalyst for environmental stewardship and responsible eco-tourism.

Reflecting on the event, HASTPA President Mohit Sood highlighted the deep connection between athletes and the landscapes they navigate, stating that cyclists have a duty to leave mountain ecosystems richer than they found them. He noted that while these saplings are small today, they represent a lasting commitment to providing shade and trail protection for future generations of riders and hikers.

The environmental action concluded with an interactive Bonsai Workshop, where participants learned the precise art and patience required to nurture miniature trees. For HASTPA, an organization dedicated to Himalayan mountain biking for over two decades, the combined initiative highlights a broader vision of fostering a cycling culture that actively respects, understands, and restores the natural environment.
