Health Awareness Drive at Shimla Nursing College

A comprehensive seminar on mental health and menstrual hygiene was successfully organized on February 20, 2026, at Shimla Nursing College. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kimi Sood with the support of the college’s Red Cross team.

The awareness session was led by experts from the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Society. Key speakers included Virender Singh Bisht, State JRC/YRC Coordinator;  Meenakshi Mehta, Counsellor at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital; Surender Gautam, Assistant Secretary, District Red Cross Branch Shimla; and Atul Negi, Volunteer, H.P. State Red Cross Society, Shimla.

The seminar featured detailed discussions on the importance of mental health, stress management, early identification of depression symptoms, and the need for timely counselling. Sessions also focused on menstrual hygiene, proper care practices, balanced nutrition, and addressing social myths surrounding menstruation.

Meenakshi Mehta encouraged students to actively spread awareness about mental health and menstrual hygiene within their communities. She highlighted the vital role of nurses in providing accurate information and eliminating misconceptions.

Dr. Krishna Chauhan, Principal of Shimla Nursing College, motivated students to uphold their social responsibilities, noting that such initiatives strengthen nursing education from both practical and community perspectives.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students participated enthusiastically. The seminar proved to be informative, inspiring, and impactful in enhancing awareness among the nursing students.

The college expressed sincere gratitude to the Youth Red Cross Unit, the Red Cross Unit Coordinator, the H.P. State Red Cross Society team, and all distinguished speakers for their valuable contributions.
